Ann Dowden

I took up drawing and painting after retiring from a career in Information Communication Technology. I enjoy drawing outdoors whatever catches my eye from derelict buildings, trees and boats to rusting tractors and cranes. I am interested in their structure, shapes and colours. How machines work and buildings are constructed has always intrigued me.

Currently I am producing a series of paintings in acrylics to record the story of the numerous construction developments in Colchester including the impact of the changing landscape of Colchester on local people. By regularly visiting the numerous building sites in Colchester I capture the construction processes and tell the story of the people at work hidden behind the hoardings.
