Anne Townshend

A foundation course at Southend College of Art and Design introduced me to all manner of ways of expressing my art. However, although I went on to spend 3 years studying textiles, primarily weaving, a career in teaching proved to be a more reliable way to earn a living!

Throughout a busy life revolving around my family and career, I always seemed to make time for drawing and sketching, and signing up to all sorts of courses and workshops. But it wasn’t until I retired at 60 that I began exploring printmaking, initially at Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop. Relief printing, mainly with lino became my focus - and I was bitten by the bug! With a gift from my father I purchased my own Albion printing press which I have used relentlessly ever since in my home studio.

I exhibit regularly around East Anglia, individually and with ‘PRINTmakers’ - a group originally formed with colleagues from Gainsborough’s House. You may also see my work reproduced on ‘Green Pebble’ cards in galleries and bookshops.

Printmaking is my pleasure, even more so if it pleases others too!
