Christian Jago

Christian Jago (b. 1993) is a set designer and photographer who constructs fantastical worlds. Growing up, he was captivated by the special visual effects which brought films such as The Dark Crystal and Blade Runner to life. Over the last two years, he has used his practice to create his own fictional spaces in response to places and environments which inspire him. His work provides a unique opportunity to escape into distant plains where the imagination is encouraged to roam freely. He is particularly interested in the ability of fantasy and fairy tales to inspire individual interpretations, experiences and associations.

To create his worlds, he predominantly hand-builds miniature-scale sets using a variety of processes such as moulding and casting. He then creatively lights and photographs these, transcending his imaginary creations into a visual reality. He also works with 3D software such as Maya and Unity to experiment with building virtual landscapes, with a particular focus on the process of photogrammetry.

Through his process of worldbuilding, Christian strives to create immersive spaces through which people can temporarily step outside of reality. His aim is to create works that make people stop, wonder and smile.
