‘The disorientation of modern times is giving rise to a search for stability through a sense of place.’ Doreen Masse, Space, Place and Gender.

My work explores the psychological influence of nature and open spaces as an escape from modern day stresses. It is influenced by the functional principals of self which argues that the physical environment is used as a means of maintaining one's psychic balance and semblance of one's self and self esteem. My practice feeds from the regular walks I take especially along the River Stour with sketches and photography. Motifs and colours are collected and reconfigured as a representation of the space as an abstracted uplifting recollection.
