David Bexley

Born 1944. Studied at Southend School of Art  then Degree in Fine Art at Sheffield.

Although having some early success as a photo-realist, exhibiting at The Tate Gallery, I decided that the London Gallery scene was not for me and, after graduation, I went motorcycle racing instead for 22 years!

I have travelled the world for 55 years and exhibited in various galleries and shows as far apart as Hong Kong, Germany and Devon.  Since those early experiences, I have never wanted to be professional though I sell almost everything I produce probably helped by my unpretentious attitude to prices. Although I never stopped producing art in the interim, I have painted and drawn continuously since retiring in 1996.

I am fascinated by the human form which includes portraiture and I am a great admirer of the artisan skills of the great painters of past centuries which seem to be out of fashion lately.  Consequently, my work is representational and carefully crafted.  My favourite subject is female nudes which I draw and paint at every opportunity though my subjects also include a steady stream of other figures, portraits and even motorcycles and veteran cars.  If it's challenging, I'm interested.
