Jane Human

My origins are in the Fens and I live in rural Suffolk. After many years of London, working freelance and also as a Senior Lecturer at Cambridge School of Art I feel lucky now to be able to spend most of my time quietly observing the natural world. Being in the landscape is an intimate, solitary and vital thing and the desire to respond in some way to this experience has never gone away. I often make observational colour drawings/studies on location which are then mediated in the studio through an offset litho press to make multi-layered monotypes. Mark-making is key, as is structure, dynamic and colour. I prefer to work in series, explore themes, and my working methods allow for connections to develop between each work as a ghost print from one image might form the basis of the next work…

Recent selected shows include CCA Galleries Emerging Artist Shortlist, Society of Women Artists Annual exhibition at Mall Galleries, guest artist with the Arborealists project on Staverton Park at Gallery East & The Minories Colchester, and Shortlist for Sir John Hurt Award, Holt Art Projects.
