Katie Ayettey

My name is Katie Ayettey and I’m an art teacher and artist based in Writtle, Essex. My work is varied, but I particularly enjoy painting landscapes, figures (both large and small), and anything involving water.

I work primarily with gouache and oils, using both canvas and paper as my surfaces. I often begin a painting by pouring thinned-down paint onto a flat surface, allowing it to form natural washes of colour. Sometimes these initial pours remain part of the final piece; other times, I paint over them entirely. Either way, this process is a vital part of my creative journey.

Through my work, I aim to capture the movement, atmosphere, and emotional feeling of a moment or place. Whether I'm teaching or creating, I find joy in exploring the unexpected and sharing that sense of discovery with others.
