Lisa Mary Stevens
I’m American & Irish, residing in the UK since 1998. I grew up in Los Angeles and studied art, design and photography at California Institute of the Arts. After CalArts I moved to New York City and began working as a creative director in print and television advertising. In 1996 I was offered a job in Paris as a creative director at an international agency. In 1998, I left Paris and came to London to do an MA in Documentary Film at Goldsmith’s University. For over twenty years I have written and produced feature documentary films for cinema and TV. In 2004 I left London for a farm on the hill above the Manningtree Train Station.
Through all of this, I never stopped taking pictures. Photography was a way to keep in touch with my own vision. And as technology evolved so did my way of interpreting what I photographed. As a child I grew up drawing and painting things that were inside my head, not in front of my eyes. With photography, I can take pictures of things in front of my eyes and turn them into something that's inside my head.
