Marc Oliver Morphew
Born 1988, Marc Oliver Morphew was raised in the small market town of Hadleigh, Suffolk that has a rich artistic history. He now lives in Essex where his studio is based.
Country boy with a heart for animals his most valued companion as a child was a jackdaw called Jack that had fallen from it's nest. He is also a keen Equestrian spending his spare time from age eight between the yards of what was Frenchs farm and Benton End.
As a self taught painter and sculptor, primarily using Oil paint and Bronze, he refuses to be bracketed into a certain style or type and allows for a progressive practice in various mediums.
“In 2019 my life went into a whirlwind, my business was destroyed, I lost my home, my relationship and went into bankruptcy. With nowhere to turn but to art, I remembered a canvas I kept from a highschool project and an old oil paint set my Nan had gifted me when I was 11, incredibly only one tube had dried out.
All I could do was paint, I didn't know what, just that I had to paint to survive. What unravelled has become my signature work and what I call ‘whirled portraits’. My Past, present, future, dark and light all coming together on canvas."
