Mavina Baker

Mavina Baker is an artist printmaker and book artist based on Mersea Island, Essex, where she works from her print studio, Teacup Press.

Her practice is centred in the physical processes of making, with hand-printed wood and linocut at its heart. She also works with collage, book-arts and letterpress, creating prints and artists’ books that explore landscape, memory and the passing of time.

Living beside the Essex coast, Mavina is particularly drawn to the fragile landscape of tidal salt-marshes and mudflats, and the shoreline, also to the birds and marine life that inhabits them. Her work often reflects upon themes of transience and fragility, connection and change, using the rhythms of the natural world as both subject and metaphor.

Baker holds an MA in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking from the University of the West of England, Bristol. Her work is held in public and university collections including; Manchester Metropolitan University, University for the Creative Arts, UWE Bristol, the University of Michigan and Columbia University.
