All my work begins in drawing. I draw most days along the coast near the studio and it is these A4 drawings that I use to start the process of painting. I hope that in the studio any image or idea is eventually transfigured entirely into paint. I can’t really explain what happens in the studio: I start putting paint on the canvas and and after a while the painting enters into some kind of dialogue with the accumulating drawings and with me. It is not a matter of technique, more one of faith and perseverance.
